The second university centre

The city of Iași is Romania's second university centre. Five state universities and two accredited private universities operate here, with over 50,000 students; the top two alone had almost 37,000 students in the 2024–2025 academic year.

On this basis, international groups have built centres here: around 2,800 engineers in automotive electronics at Aumovio and 3,166 employees at Amazon Development Center at the end of 2025. Around 14,000 specialists work in the city-centre office cluster, 9,000 at Palas and 5,000 at Palas Campus.
